After a loooooong hiatus, ITSAZOO is back! We’re about to embark on our largest show to date and we need your help to make it a reality!
Co-produced with Aphotic Theatre, our upcoming production The Café is an immersive, site-specific theatre event performed at Kafka’s Coffee and Bakery (Great Northern Way).
This is the largest show we’ve ever done. With 14 actors, 9 playwrights, 2 directors, and designers and crew, this project is putting a team of 30 artists to work in a time when our industry is barely bouncing back from 2 years of lockdowns, closures and isolation. 68% of our streamlined budget is going directly to paying artists!
The Café features seven scenes written by a diverse group of playwrights of various ethnicities, ages, beliefs, gender expressions and identities. Intimately-sized audiences of 30 people are invited to sit at or near one of seven “performance tables” and watch as a story unfolds mere inches away from them.
This exciting new experience was conceived by Aphotic Artistic Director, and Vancouver theatre stalwart, Fay Nass. Aphotic is dedicated to creating original work by queer women, trans women, and women of colour. The Café was created with support from, and is being co-presented by, the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival.
Here’s how a tax-receiptable donation from you can help:
$5 pays for the coffees for one of the scenes!
$25 pays for roughly an hour of an actor’s time
$50 pays for roughly an hour of a director’s time
$100 pays for a day of rehearsal space
$500 pays for a day of our performance venue
$1000 pays for one of the commissioned scripts!
$2000 – Assuages Your White Guilt! (momentarily: not guaranteed) Board member Byron Flekke, a First Nations man local to so-called ‘BC’, will personally thank you for your donation!
You can donate here via Canada Helps OR mail us a cheque here.
